Does Stevens Square Foundation support start-up programs?

Yes, if within the current funding priorities.

Who is eligible to apply for a grant?

Grants are restricted to private, nonprofit organization for purposes defined under 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code, public agencies or religious institutions. Applicant organizations that do not have their 501(c)(3) status are welcome to apply as long as their fiscal agent for the project is a 501(c)(3) organization. Organizations that apply under fiscal agency must provide a letter of support from the fiscal agent organization, as well as documentation of the 501(c)(3) status of the fiscal agent organization. Applicant organizations must be able to demonstrate that they are in compliance with all federal, state and local non-discrimination ordinances.

Does Stevens Square Foundation support capital expenses?

Yes. The Foundation does not, however, fund endowments or major capital building projects.

Does Stevens Square Foundation fund operating support?

Yes.

Can we request more than one year of support?

Grants are for one year. A new application must be submitted for each year for which funding is requested. Each grant round is competitive.

For how many years are we eligible for Stevens Square Foundation support?

Stevens Square Foundation will provide up to three consecutive years of support. Your organization must reapply for each year of funding. After three consecutive years of funding, your organization must take one year off before reapplying for further support.

What is expected of us after receiving a grant?

A year-end evaluation of the program which has been funded must be submitted by applicants. The reports should be submitted on the Minnesota Common Report Form available from the Minnesota Council on Foundations. Any granted funds not expended during the grant period are to be returned to Stevens Square Foundation.

How are grant decisions made?

Proposals and attachments received by the published deadline are screened to assure a fit with the Foundation's guidelines and current funding priorities. Members of the Grants Committee review the most compelling proposals and conduct site visits for all requiring full review. The Board makes decisions based on the Committee's recommendations no later than October 31.

The Greater Twin Cities seven county metropolitan area.

What is the typical grant size?

Stevens Square Foundation grants can range from $5,000 to $50,000. Grant requests for $35,000 to $50,000 are carefully evaluated for their capacity to carry out the project as proposed. In addition, priority is given to requests focused on creating positive change in the older adult services field.
